  • was this maybe before they wrote First Tube?

  • - I think so, or maybe they came up with the riff/theme during an earlier rehearsal or concert & Trey brought it into this jam as a kinda run-thru to see how it felt and how they all might respond to music live. If the main riff had already been written, I don't think they had come up with the other parts just yet - I think the memorable "First Tube" baseline repeating underneath was still to come. . .

The first performance of "First Tube" was on Sept. 9th, 1999 in Vancouver.

  • SICK.

  • It wont let me link it here, but search "Trey Anastasio First Tube 8 Foot". First Tube was already written at this point by Trey, Russ Lawton & Tony Markelis (sp?).

  • @Phish86 yeah I know he wrote it with another band but wasnt sure if this was before or after that.. pretty cool he put it in here ;) very nice! lol

  • @joelkeaton First Tube was written with Trey's solo band (Russ Lawton & Tony Markelis (sp?) in '99. The bass line is 3 notes (A-E-G) & is a very common/simple bass line used in many many songs.

  • Trey @ 3:48 he rules them wukkaz

  • First tube tease. Sweet
