@diablillo94 Their primary purpose is to amplify sound as route video signals to your TV from various sources. See wikipedia "receivers". It's very helpful.

@ApFaqTech I have a question: You know where I can find a Manual for the Sony FM Stereo/FM-AM Receiver, Serial #: 8867293, Model #: STR-D915?
-
if for people that want 7.1 ch sound.

Does the receiver changes the sound quality?
I mean i know it can decode HD Lossless audio. But will my movies sound better or will it be just about the multichannels.
I have an old Technics AV Receiver bought in like... 2002 i think.
Will the difference be obvious even for normal 5.1 for exemlpe?

sounds stupid but..
whats a reciever and what can i use it for?

You may have to bite the bullet and take advantage of the warranty by disconnecting your receiver and sending it off to be repaired.
Or, keep pushing to get a service technician over to your place.
Your system is not functioning properly because of a faulty receiver and the problem is not going to get any better by doing nothing about it.
