Kin Vassy was a singer-songwriter who in addition to his solo recordings also recorded with other artists, most notably Kenny Rogers, Frank Zappa and Elvis Presley. His full name was Charles Kindred Vassy.
In the 1960s, Vassy made a name for himself as a member of The Back Porch Majority. In 1969 he left them and joined Country rock outfit Kenny Rogers and The First Edition. As a member of the group he enjoyed a top 30 album - Something's Burning - and one of his own songs "Heed The Call" became a top 40 hit in 1970.
Vassy left the group in 1972 after The Ballad of Calico album and was replaced by Jimmy Hassell. Vassy went on to work on both a solo career and as a session musician. Soon after, however, he was slated to come back to The First Edition in order to replace his former bandmate Terry Williams who had launched his own solo career. According to First Edition member Gene Lorenzo Kin's second tenure only lasted one night.

I knew Ken. He was the nicest person you would ever want to meet. And so much more talented then he got credit for. I know he is singing in Heaven!

Great song by the late Kin Vassy, who became well-known for his collaborations with Kenny Rogers. On the old UNI Records label (which later became MCA Records)! UNI's vast roster of artists included the likes of Neil Diamond, Elton John, Desmond Dekker & The Aces, Olivia Newton-John, Hugh Masekela & Brian Hyland, among others.
Bravo, Kin Vassy (R.I.P.)!

Not only were Kin Vassy and Kenny Rogers in the The First Edition together they also wrote some songs together (including "Stranger In My Place").
Kin provided back-up vocals on several of Kenny's albums 1978 to 1990 period.
Kin passed away from cancer in 1994.
Thanks for sharing the song.
