The guides said this was around an 80 kg. sailfish...5 of us took turns over a 25 minute period of time reeling this guy-in. We were approximately 1/2 mile off shore around Southern Cancun...

  • FOR THE RECORD - I was told buy the guides at the time the fish was 80-85 kilos which converts to approximately 170. They probably meant to say 80-85 lbs. I went with what they told me. It was my first sailfish and I AGREE the title is definitely off....I leave it on there now just to get all the witty comments from everyone!

  • that is not fishing, the boat was sailing in reverse, wich made it alot easier, and by the way, i have foshed 4 marlins and 1 sail fish, the biggest one of 300 pound, i got on the news XD

  • @eduardo97hovelman

This was a half-day excursion we took so we took what we could get...Our first time deep-sea fishing. I'm a fly-fisherman regularly.

    Tight Lines!

  • I bet she was excited as hell to catch that, regardless of how big it was. Congrats!!!

  • She was very excited.....thanks for the post and obviously I over-estimated the overall size of that fish....I'm not typically a saltwater angler and was shocked when the guides told me it was around 80 kilograms.....they probably meant to say 80 lbs.....anyway, Tight Lines!

  • I had no idea of the size. The guides said 170 and I went with that. First saltwater fish of that size....I rarely fish saltwater and don't have the experience as I do in freshwater...

  • a 140 lbs. Mexican crew member doesn't just drag a 170 lbs pacific sail into the boat with no problem

  • That fish didn't weigh 170 lbs y'all are crazy maybe 85 lbs and my 14 year old catches those by herself all the time.

  • @bjblanch If your ever in Everett Massachusetts message me, I will show you real fishing.
