Hear the 2007 KMEA All State Audition music by Robert Wall performed with suggestions on how to practice. I'll be giving a FREE clinic on this music at Northern Kentucky University on Nov. 1, 2007 from 7-9 PM.

Start learning this audition music by practicing slowly, with a metronome.

Watch PART 2 of this video for suggestions on breathing, rhthym, and a few fingering tricks.

In this video I played a Brio! B10 student step-up flute because it is more similar to the type of flutes most high school students are playing for their auditions. This particular flute has a silver headjoint and open holes. The body is not silver, but they do make versions with silver bodies. Many thanks to Brio! flutes for providing me with this instrument and supporting this educational video project. Support from my sponsors helps keep the REAL FLUTE project FREE to YOU!

  • I always like to ask this question..Do you like concert band or Marching band(if you ever been in it :)

  • @queenbeeheather CONCERT band!

  • what is the difference between a flute played in high school and a proffesional one

  • dear ihateu20:

    about $10,000.

but seriously, a pro flute is typically made of solid silver head, body and keys, is fully handmade, and may have soldered toneholes.

  • Nina you play so beautifully. I can make the sound "B" Im a beginner. But I cannot get "A" Im so frustated. I have a beginner book. I dont know if it is me or what. It is used. Im stuck on "A" if I can't make the sound "A" come out of my flute I cant go on can this be? what do you think I should do? Any advice for me? Im a flute lover for many years thank you

  • make sure you have the correct fingering. Are you playing an open hole flute? If so, make sure the holes are ENTIRELY covered. Start on B then just add the finger to play the A. If it still does not work, you may need flute repair!

  • What was the name of that piece you performed?? Absolutely brilliant! You are amazing! I just bought my first flute and will eagerly be using your videos as the best guidance for me. Thank you for making sure great videos!!

  • @ninaflute I can't pick between, I love both so much!! Thx for the input

  • thank you

  • Nina, I'm thinking of auditinoing for a semi-professional band. One of the requirements for the band is to prepare a piece that's at least a Level 4. I pulled out one of my old audition pieces from high school states. It it Gabriel Faure's Fantase. I never learned it to my satisfaction. I think a lot of these tips could help me. I think I started practicing the piece too fast. Your tip about sixteenth note = 72 I think could really help me.

  • i love flutes sooooooooo muchhhhhhhh i play but your fantastic

  • You guys should check Serge Mikel , I'm from Japan , but what a surprise , in nyc!!!

  • 3 a gemeinhardt 3sh are very good for intermidiate or intermidiate heading to pro
