R News reports on the presentation of Rochester's Engineer of the Year Award, won by Rochester Institute of Technology professor Satish Kandikar.
Anchor: An annual event honored some of Rochester's brightest engineers. The Rochester Engineering Society held its 107th annual gala at the convention center. Two major awards were handed out. Venkat Rao of the Xerox Corp. won the young engineer of the year award. Dr. Satish kandikar, a mechanical engineering professor at RIT, took home the Leo East Engineer of the Year award. RES leaders call this their signature event.
RIT engineering dean Harvey Palmer: We look forward to it with a passion and enthusiasm. This is the one time where all the engineers regardless of discipline come together to celebrate what we do each and every day in the Rochester community.
Anchor: More than $50,000 in scholarships were also handed t to local engineering students.
