Here's a song I learned in 1966, the same year I learned to play the guitar.

In case you didn't catch it, this song's about judgment day, when it will be too late to pray. The reason it's too late to pray is because everyone will have already had every possible opportunity and reason to believe and repent and give their hearts to Jesus. By this time all prayers will be useless, because if your heart hasn't been changed by then, it never will be. If the Lord were to save you then, you'd be the same person you are now, and would be discontent with the perceived restrictions there would be in heaven. It will be God's mercy as well as His wrath that ultimately destroys unrepentant sinners. It is my prayer that this video will serve as a message of mercy to those who have yet to make a decision concerning Jesus. May you give Him your heart now while there is yet time to seal it with His love.

Oh, sinner man,
Where're ya gonna run to? (x3)
All on that day.

Run to the rock.
Rock, won't you hide me? (x3)
All on that day.

The Lord said, sinner man,
The rock will be a meltin'. (x3)
All on that day.

Run to the moon.
Moon, won't you hide me? (x3)
All on that day.

The Lord said, sinner man,
The moon will be a-bleedin'. (x3)
All on that day.

Run to the sun.
Sun, won't you hide me? (x3)
All on that day.

The Lord said, sinner man,
The sun will be a feezin'. (x3)
All on that day.

Run to the sea.
Sea, won't you hide me? (x3)
All on that day.

The Lord said, sinner man,
The sea will be a-boilin'. (x3)
All on that day.

I'll run to You, Lord,
Lord won't You hide me? (x3)
All on that day.

The Lord said, sinner man,
You should have been a-prayin'. (x3)
All on that day.

Look at me, Lord.
Now I'm a-prayin'! (x3)
All on that day.

The Lord said, sinner man,
You're prayin' too late! (x3)
All on that day.

Run to the devil,
Devil, won't you hide me? (x3)
All on that day.

The devil said, sinner man,
Come on in! (x3)
All on that day.

Oh, sinner man,
Where're ya gonna run to? (x3)
All on that day.

  • This is a powerful song. Even though I am not Christian, or religious, this song has a lot to say on several levels if you are not pedantic about the exact meaning of words like prayer, lord, devil and such, but are able to take it as a parable of life in general.

  • @mortalisk I couldn't agree more! Though I am a believer now, I was not when I first learned this song, and it actually was a bit of a leap for me to think of it as a gospel song after I became a believer. But, as you say, it is a very powerful song, and I believe a powerful message to everyone, professed believers, and non-believers alike. What is the message? You can't hide from who you are forever.

  • Like this version as it has the words i remember!

  • @samwisegamgeese That's important, because we don't know what we like. We like what we know! I like this version, because it makes more sense than many of the other versions.

  • @guitmartiman well i like more the version of threelegoman because his lyrics are more folkloric. When I'll manage to learn this song I'll mix his lyrics with yours and les baxters.

  • Finally a video with good sound and a good video. Thanks for posting this. It's going into my favorites.

  • Something very special about that rendition, Jack. Thanks for sharing. Very effective video effects, too. And a good reminder that the time to pray and commit is now. Again ... thanks.

  • Nicely sung. Strange lyrics though.
