I am a Boston native, live in Columbus, Ohio currently, and since living here have always wanted to open up a candlepin house here. Of course, people think I am batshit crazy when I try explaining it to native Ohioans, but it is one of those things, they will "get it" once they see it. A local center around here *almost* had some lanes of a rebuilt center dedicated for candlepin, but then he changed his mind :(. Still, I hope to have a few lanes here. The Wyoming, OH location..residents only
I think it's a dance club now. Too bad to lose the lanes, arcade, and the pool hall. When I grew up in Quincy, there were 4-5 places to bowl. I don't know if there are any anymore. Hell, I live near Burlington, VT, and the closest candlepin place is a few hours away. I go to some lanes in Davis Square when I can, but it's not that much. Really miss being able to bowl more often.
Hey Apodino do that!!!! Someone in Wyoming Ohio opened up a 6-lane candlepin place in a rec center AND it's recognized by the ICBA!!!! If you do start it do so but only small and show direction because NO ONE is going to get it. After a while a few will get it and MAYBE it can take off.
Wow. Shows a lot has happened since I moved out of the area 4 years ago. With all these lanes closing, you would think there would be a surplus of Bowl Mor Pinsetters for the sport to grow beyond Massachusetts. Maybe I should open a Candlepin center here in Wisconsin? But what is happening to the sport even in Boston? This is sad. I remember going to the center right below Fenway Park as a kid all the time.
Big League Bowling is NOW the US postal service center and Lucky Strike Lanes closed in Feb 2006. I didn't think of the 20th Century (or Ice Cream lanes) I believe it's still there.
That stinks. I started bowling there. That bowling center was almost like Sammy White's.

What's the state of Mike Morrill's health? He was seriously ill at one point years back, but I never heard what happened.

Yep. 20th Century is still there. I know the owner's son.

Bowl a Way in Burlington closed in 2002. It's a storage store now.
