James Kalm documents the art worlds tremendous outpouring of support for the Brooklyn Rail. In the brief eight years since its publishing debut, the Brooklyn Rail has become one of New Yorks most controversial and influential publications. Providing a counterbalance to the commercially driven blandness of much current art criticism, the Rail provides a unique voice, publishing works by todays most recognized writers. Featuring interviews with Bruce Pearson, Lydia Dona, Thomas Micchelli and Jenifer Riley

The Kalm Report: Art Vlogging as Performance & Critique

    By Hrag Vartanian

  • You've a great family there. More than the really attractive art, I'm impressed with the sense of community and beneficial collective behavior. Claws and fangs evolving on our potentially fair species have always seemed so misplaced with our sensitive hearts. Does the Rail exist as ink on paper? Bravo.

  • The Brooklyn Rail is mainly a hardcopy presence in NYC. About 20,000 copies distributed throughout the city every month at the better galleries, bookstores and art supply shops. Plus a couple thousand copies shipped out to the West Coast and Europe. A pretty expensive operation.
