Recap: Coming into Game 7, no home team had suffered a loss and neither squad had dropped a game when scoring first. When Patrice Bergeron put the Bruins up 1-0 in the first period, one of those trends was bound to come to an end. The B's doubled their lead on a Brad Marchand goal and made it 3-0 when Bergeron chipped in his second tally shorthanded.

Just 20 minutes away from capturing the Cup, Boston blanked the Canucks in the final frame thanks to 16 spectacular saves by goalie Tim Thomas. With Roberto Luongo on the bench for an extra attacker, Brad Marchand buried his second goal into an empty net with 2:44 remaining. From there it was simply a formality, waiting for the clock to strike 0:00. Thomas finished with 37 saves for his second shutout of the series and his fourth of the playoffs to lead the Bruins to their first Stanley Cup championship since 1972.

Series: Bruins win 4-3

Key Plays of the Game: In the second period, Alex Burrows had an opportunity to cut the Bruins lead but was miraculously denied. Zdeno Chara's attempt to send the puck up the ice ricocheted right to the Canucks forward in the slot. He strafed from left to right and waited Thomas out, but Chara was there to bail out his netminder, stopping Burrows' shot with a leg save.

Bergeron's second tally of the night was the ultimate back-breaker for Luongo and the Canucks. The Bruins alternate captain got in alone while shorthanded and just managed to get a shot of while being harassed by multiple defenders behind him. Sent barreling into Luongo, Bergeron's shot managed to trickle through the goalie's pads and into the back of the net, putting his team up 3-0. Against Tim Thomas, that was just about as insurmountable of a mountain to climb as the Canucks could ever fathom with a little more than 20 minutes to go in the contest.
