Dazaifu Shrine near Fukuoka City in Kyushu Japan is amazing. Not only because of the incredible thousand year old buildings but also because it is not overrun by tourists. I felt like I was experiencing an authentic slice of rich Japanese culture.
Following my tour of the Shrine I proceeded up nearby Homan Mtn with the intention of camping. However, at the peak it was simply too cold. Spirits doused I descended 3.1km in nearly complete darkness with only my headlamp to light the frosty trail.

  • It's obvious that you are a photographer. There are some nice pictures in the video.

Have you ever been to Aomori-ken?

You should check out the Neputa festival in Hirosaki in August. It's awesome and a splendid source for astonishing photographs.

  • @42317 Thanks for the heads up! It's harder than you'd think to find out where the really good festivals are. There's also one in Kumamoto near the Paper Museum I went to (and made a video of) with a bunch of woman wearng paper lantern on their head that I want to see too.

How easy/expensive is it to buy outdoor gear in Japan compared to EMS or Northface outlets back here in New England?

  • @selllout101 About the same but slightly different. Although there are outlet stores for Montbell and Columbia here and there, almost every Sports Authority or other sporting goods store has a somewhat developed hiking/camping section with the essentials.

  • @42317 how much does a nekobasu cost? If you don't know what I'm refering to then nvm lol

  • Yeah, I guess it's hard if you're only a beginner in Japanese. But trust me with the Neputa/Nebuta festivals in Hirosaki, Hachinohe, and Goshogawara; those are Super-Matsuris with big illuminated wagons and huge drums.

Travelling by night bus is relatively cheap compared to train travel btw.

  • Yeah, that is a possibility. Same offer goes for you if you ever need a place to crash in Tokyo.

  • @RisuMiso Dude. That on my list for this coming spring (April). We should tag team that place. If you have other ideas but need a place to stay on the way down, I'm in Kitakyushu. There's always a free futon for friends.

  • I'll keep that in mind. I want to go to Yakushima island eventually too and see the ancient tree.

  • @RisuMiso If you've never been to Mt. Mitake on the west side of Tokyo prefecture it is gorgeous.

  • @TheVinster thanks for the suggestion. i try to use only music for which i have the rights though.
