One of my goals as a ukuleleist - and now dulcileleist - is to cover the great old country blues artists like Mississippi John Hurt. This is a big challenge, considering the uke has 4 strings and the stick dulcimer has only 3. Trying to cover a song like this with half the strings of a guitar forces you to make some compromises. But a lot of the fun comes with the challenge.

I though it was appropriate to cover MJH while in Savannah,TN, which is about 30 minutes from MS.

  • Love this tune and the way you play it!

Is this a mix of ukulele and dulcimer?

  • @Youkkoul Thank you! Its essentially a dulcimer stuck on a uke body.

  • Good weather and good music. Spring done sprung.

  • @uke5417 What a great weekend we had. I hope yours was the same!

  • Hope you won't get jealous, Al, but I'm in love with your Dulcilele ^_^ Happy Easter my friend.

  • @thesebinextdoor I'll swap it for your u-bass! :) Have a blessed Easter!

  • Ultimate cool little instrument!! Must go down to the local dulcimer shop and get one!! .........not another instrument!!! I love the sound of these little thangs!! Nice Job! t:)

  • It looks lovely out but this kind of music always makes me think of winter time & snuggling up by the wood stove. Excellent job, Al!

  • it sounds great! ;°)

  • Impressive! Having to play around with only 3 strings would be ... very challenging, but isn't that compensated with the length of the fret board. What's the tuning like and what strings are used if you don't mind me asking?

  • @heatherlbrandt - "megan at the door" is a cool name for a dog. i'll have to write record a song about it.. and when i say record a song i mean something that sounds like a cat in the washing machine.

not that i would know what that sounds like...anyhoo i digress. i now have a purpose in life once again

  • @revdrjim it's the name of my parents' dog :0

  • Wow. That was beautiful. I've never seen that instrument before, but it's fantastic. You're great!

  • nice pickin' there slim!
