  • The influence of Blake's Florida style overpowers any Piedmont influence. There was no picking like this in the Piedmonts until Blake started traveling north from Florida.

  • I've known about Josh White's respect for Willie but have never heard him before today. I am in awe of the cleanness of his work. Thanks for posting this and such a clean copy. Props to you.

  • I was listening to this on your channel and had to come here to let you know how much I am enjoying both this song and Willie Walker. I am going to listen to Rev. Gary Davis now. I love his blues, but I'm not familiar with his ragtime. As far as blues goes, I adore him and his fantastic voice! Of course, I seem to pretty much love all I find on your channel!!! Perfection! Thanks for your time and dedication keeping this great music alive!

  • @gtrmon yeah, but gary davis is still awsome - and he has such a massive variety of inventive recordings ragtime, folk, blues, gospel and misc....

plus he taught blind boy fuller to play

  • Blind Blake - Fully formed ragtime blues player when he first recorded in 1926... West Coast Blues et al... Blake was both the father and source master of ragtime blues guitar... he didn't get that good in a day, he was playing long before that. He precedes Willie Walker by years. Gary Davis never really got that jumping feel on any of his covered Blake tunes, check out his unexciting version of West Coast Blues... Blind Boy Fuller was the most guitar influential outside of Blake

  • Classic "Piedmont" guitar from Willie,in his time the hottest act in Greenville SC. This was probably the only man the Rev Gary Davis would yield to. Great stuff.
