The video narrates the Participatory-GIS initiatives, efforts and experiences acquired from mapping with Ogiek Indigenous People in Kenya. Suffering from historical injustices of dispossession and expropriation of their ancestral territories within Mau Forest Complex, the Ogiek resorted into recording their claims of rights and interests over the forest on a map towards seeking redress from the government. During the period 2004-2005, ERMIS Africa, through financial support from CDE Switzerland facilitated the Ogiek to map these claims using aerial photograph enlargements of 1991. The experience was shared by Julius Muchemi during the International Mapping for Change 2005 held in Nairobi, Kenya. During the consecutive years, 2006-2008, with financial support from CTA and IPACC, ERMIS supported the Ogiek to construct a P3DM to supplement the information derived from the aerial photo mapping. At the time of producing the PGIS Tool, 2010-2010, the Ogiek had produced an Ogiek People Ancestral People Atlas (OPAT Atlas) which the government has adopted and using facilitation restitution of their ancestral claims and resettlement with their ancestral land in Mau Forest Complex.
