Equilibre in two different configurations :
1) The first one is the standard configuration we use to go fishing, just sail out for a while or races. We were still using bamboo booms on this one. Bamboo has sadly the bad habit of splitting up with time, so we changed that to ...

2) massive pine wood (for the upper boom for the moment, as we're testing how it behaves). This configuration is the Camping Car config for longer trips. Two people can comfortably sleep in the igloo, and two (less comfortably if you ask me) inside the main hull. We're taking Equilibre on a 2 weeks island hopping journey in a few days, so we'll have opportunity to see if the igloo is good enough and whether the pinewood booms are up to the task.

  • what's the dimension of the pinewood boom? thinking about using the same material, but i'd imagine it makes it abit top-heavy?

  • @20BFC3S I'll need to ask Jerry. He moved away from the pinewood (again) when the upper one broke. It had a knot we hadn't noticed, and getting knot-free wood is difficult. Currently we're back to an assemblage of (carbon) windsurf masts.

  • who sings this song? is nice, i like :)

  • Linton Kwesi Johnson .. click on the "more info" button on the right for more details ;)

  • Sigh,

lLooks like the answer I wrote a few days ago didn't get accepted by youtube.

The plain pine wood booms are better than the bamboo. we lose some power, but they don't break all of a sudden, and age WAY better than the bamboo, who tends to split lengthwise over time.

The safety, compared to the power-loss, is definitely worth it :)

  • I'm enjoying the transformation from modern to more traditional. Seems to really get my soul back into what its really about simiplicity in living, or is that sailing.

Or is that just the subliminal message burried in the music your playing:)

  • so Jeremie - is it better with bamboo than plain wood booms?
