Acne Keloidalis Nuchae (AKN) is a keloid like condition that affects the back of the head and neck. Many mistakenly attribute it to razor bumps or shaving bumps. It actually not cause by shaving. It is also not caused by ingrown hair. It is chronic and permanent and resistant to treatment. It mostly afflicts people of African descent as well as Hispanic, primarily men. Its surgical removal usually results in a wide stretched scar.

These patients came to Dr Umar after series of steroid injections had failed. Dr Umar uses Tricophytic closure technique to cure the AKN in these patients by surgical excision with minimal appearance of scar. Tricophytic closure is sometimes used in hair transplant surgeries, facelifts and other facial plastic procedures to minimize the appearance of scar. Depending on your AKN presentation, there are different treatment options.

Dr Umar is located in the (Redondo Beach) south bay area of Los Angeles, California.
