1979 Ford Bronco

overall a very nice Bronco, in fact the best one i have ever seen with my own eyes, most of these 1978 and 1979 Broncos have been abused and beaten off road, thus there commonly all dinged up and are often very rotten from rust due to lack of care, thus this Bronco is a rare one around here in the rust belt region, also another note it appears to be a Custom from looking at the badge, it has the same meaning as it did on the 73-79 F-series trucks, Custom meant that you got a basic truck and you could simply order any option you wanted, thus people could get speical options from higher trim levels like Ranger XLT and Lariat, thus Ford got rid of the Custom model sometime in the 80s, since people where getting smart and paying less by ordering a Custom and thus not paying to get a frilly Ranger XLT or Lariat that where often laden with trim and speical emblems and interior upgrades like wood grain glove box doors, etc etc, also take note this Bronco has the manual front locking hubs (the red colored switches in the center of the front wheel) that tells me this truck has a (New Process) NP-205 transfer case, the same one in my truck, which means you can shift out of 4x4 and into 2x4, the hubs have to be locked by hand on each side, or the 4x4 won't engage, also if it didn't have the locking hubs and just a normal hub cap, it would tell me it has the NP-203 which was chain driven and prone to wear out, unlike the strong gear to gear design in the NP-205, the NP-203 had a shifter too but it would only shift from 4X4 HI and 4X4 LOW , thus it was full time 4x4

also these 78-79 Broncos where a departure from the small first generation 66-77 Broncos which where replaced by these F-series based Broncos for 78-79, now Ford started the redesign in 1972, codenamed Project Short-Horn, but introduction was delayed by concerns over the mid-1970s fuel crisis, thus the big bronco based off the F-series was delayed

  • very nice bronco. im keepin my 1996 bronco and looks like new.

  • So True! My Dad had a 73 Blazer

    Not sure?

if it was mineor my Dads Driving?

It could easily out climb, local jeeps & other 4x4's. It would take down a small- Medium tree, NO problem.

Until, He took the blazer body off, Lenthend the chasis & put an Elcomino body on it.

Except for looking cool, it couldn't do half of what it used to do.

Just keep it between the ditches!

  • any time i seen the older bronco at a place once that was a beutifull restoration if i c it again i will record it for you peae man

  • ya bigger tires it could use, but i am thinking the owner is going for the factory look, i do like larger tires, but sometimes people go to large, then the trucks are destined for off road only, then half there functionally is wasted, also i give the owner credit for not being tempted by the dark side and just jacking up the suspension and putting big swamper tires under it, i also wish i had some way to contact the owner of this truck now, as i have a factory Push bar he might want to install
