I'm switching to a pump in April, a little nervous. I'm okay with needles (right now I do 4 injections minimum a day) but I'm still squeamish about putting that needle in myself. I've heard the manual ones are cheaper than the ones that come with the lil mechanism that sticks it in you. Good video, hope you are doing well

@cherrylovecoke you don't get skinny from DKA? What are you talking about...?
-
OK I talk a lot so I ran out of room. :) I use the longer needle. I have no meat on my sides. I may try other places. I'm old enough to remember before there were disposable needles and no at home blood testing. Only urine. I love the pump because I no longer have to eat on a schedule. If I'm sick I don't have to eat. So many reasons. Anyone afraid of the pump don't be. It's so much better than injections.
@ilovecub1 What's DKA? Whaaaaa? I'm not good with abbreviations :3

@cherrylovecoke I believe the user was referring to diabetic ketoacidosis

I'm a little confused on how you put yours on. My daughters pump says you prime first before putting it on.That avoids air in the tubing going in first before the insulin so you get a correct dosage. You also didn't wipe with an alcohol pad first. I realize you said you just showered.

@naturegirlfromny priming is done when you refill your insulin reservoir. You are supposed to fill the cannula after removing the needle. That fills in the void created from removing the needle. I may have misused words while filming so just make sure to fill your cannula after removing your insert needle! As for the alcohol pad, I originally prepped the site and then decided to film. I realized later I didn't comment on prepping with alcohol so I am glad someone else did!

Oh and your stomach does not look terrible like that one poster said. Sorry that bugged me. OK all for now!

@Pwrnpraise1 - I think it hurts about the same, except you need to force yourself to set the needle rather than let the inserter device do it for you. I too agree that the pump makes being diabetic much easier. It allows your life to be flexible, which makes things easier. The holidays are also much easier so you can bolus an extra dose for cookies and pie!
