@cartman49251 F school based on what? I mean I know the drill. I'm from Tampa (FAMU graduate) teaching music in NJ and the same mess is going on up here. As if kids in all "urban" districts/schools are incapable being productive citizens. Bottom line, our communities must play "the game" much better than we are. What happened to the pride we had before the civil rights movement (i.e. we must perform better at everything than everyone)? HMMMMM...Integration vs. Assimilation. I'm just sayin'

I know how big they used to be but thats just it. They USED to be that big. They should deal with what they have now and stop spacing out so much.

well my senior in the band we all atched the trumpet section and baritone and tubas grow but they also nhad to start everyone from scratch so it aint easy when u gotta get outta school 330 and practice end at 6

That reaper(hint hint) made certain that we didnt have any bone totters. Weak were made strong! The reaper delivered a death blow that would make you quit or get your act together. If you made the FORCE, it was very likely you could withstand THUNDER's strike. TBones "Sweat Blood" for MC's rep!
I am the originator, "RAW DAWG." Bone Sec Leader '94 &'95. ALL HAIL.
The legacy lives on. ALL HAIL to my SΦF predecessors and the fruit of my ΣΦF seed. Lets keep that fire going. Look my pic up.LOL

What's the deal? This is one of two people one is my freshman brother the other came in the year prior to me and became out section leader in 1994. Although they don't have the numbers we did, the bones still sound good. I guess we had a godo foundation and a legancy that persists until now. I wish that people could see the band we were in and know that we did "SWEAT FOR OUT REP"
The sound would be better (On video at least) if yall weren't so spaced out. Spacing out just spreads the potential volume. But overall good.

They're spaced out because they don't want to appear smaller than what they really are. Used to be the biggest band in Miami-Dade County, 300-400 plus during the 90s

@FilmNoir3k As if the FCAT is going to put food on people's plate. Somehow the communities have to be summoned to support these kids in these band programs. For many, band is the only way to make it to college. What a shame that the politicians in FL continue to get away with treachery (charter schools, vouchers, standardized testing determining graduation...). I read somewhere that there's legislation in the works to provide for teacher evaluations based on FCAT results...big trouble!!!!

@gowbass The FCAT does nothing but attempt to close the urban schools down. It's fine to have a test to see what students have learned throughout the year but the FCAT isn't it. Get back to educating these students with unconventional methods on the subjects at hand. The FCAT is testing them on materials they haven't learned. But i totally agree with your post, especially integration vs assimilation

I see all the nice comments everyone is making about the band but I need to set the record straight on the recruitment issue. I am a student at central and we have been out recruiting the last couple of years heavily. Its hard to get ppl to come to central because we are a 4 time f school. Back in the 90's that wasnt an issue and please take into consideration that horace mann is our only feeder school..westview and madison have no band programs. Our directors have been working very hard and so

Also, another central band alum and I were talking. She said they would come out to the schools but why can't you all still go out to Madison and Westview to entice the students as to what they could be missing? I know Central is in danger of closing down but there are wayts to entice students to come out to your school and perfrm in band
