Lou Glazier, President of Michigan Future, talks about the critical importance that college attainment (proportion of workers with a four-year degree) plays in determine economic prosperity for a state or a region. For Michigan, it has been an anomaly for most of the last century due to the high concentration of low-skill high-pay jobs in the auto industry. However, it's actual level of educational attainment predicts that its economic prosperity, relative to the nation, should be lower. Stunningly, this is exactly what has happened over the past 7 years - its economic prosperity has fallen back in-line with its college attainment. It demonstrates the important of attracting, retaining, and preparing talent as key for Michigan.
