Deputy Secretary of Commerce Hightower - Address to the AMCHAM-EU in Brussels, march 26, 2010.
Clip Transcript:
"Were promoting competitive markets that create an environment that is right for entrepreneurship and risk-taking; and third, catalyzing sort of breakthroughs for national priorities and what sectors have exceptional importance, whether its clean energy, whether its applied vehicle technology or advanced vehicle technology and health care, among others. We want to make a distinction saying that innovation as we are defining it is really looking at where are the high growth industries that also provide sustainable growth. Everything thats innovative does not have to be high technology. There are a number of basic so-called older technologies that are still applicable, but weve got to repoint, redirect and redeploy those assets into some of the areas that have more growth and potential.

Recently our Commerce Secretary Gary Locke launched the Office of Innovation and Entrepreneurship. This is something, an idea that we actually incubated, if you will, in the Office of the Secretary. We stood it up and now were operationalizing it, putting it into one of the 12 bureaus in the department. Here were really trying to help drive policies across the U.S. government that will help clean industry entrepreneurs, and all entrepreneurs, for that matter, to translate new ideas, products and services into economic growth."
