Time to be pedantic! Regarding string theory, depending on what you mean by "mainstream" may not be entirely correct. Out of the many people in the physics department at my university, I can only confirm one of them (professor S. James Gates) who believes that string theory is anything more than pretty mathematics. However, if you meant "mainstream" as in most well-known by the general public, then I completely agree with you.

@rossexton yes, but not education from big pharma or politicians or the people they pay to say stuff that isn't true on behalf of those who are not looking out for our best interests - we cannot trust those who lie about science and keep evidence out of courts - america has been hi-jacked in the area of science

@hivquestions The debate on politics and big pharma is huge and something we could discuss for hours. Yes, big pharma has become a business which only focuses its attention on drugs from which it can make a profit. But, this money goes a substantial way to funding further research. The education I was referring to was surrounding that provided by charities and aid workers; simple awareness of HIV and sexually transmitted infections and promoting the use of protection - especially in Africa.
