Peter Bonetti
Peter played over 720 games for Chelsea during a career spanning 25 years. He was an outstanding goalkeeper whose extreme agility earned him his nickname, The Cat. Chelsea fans loved Peter for his reliability and coolness under pressure. Unfortunately, England fans remember him for his performance in the 1970 World Cup semi-final defeat to Germany. England were 2-0 up, but lost 3-2 and Cat was made a scapegoat. Peter took some unfair flak after the match and even today critics seem to forget he conceded only one goal in the other six games he played for his country. One of Peters happiest memories is winning the 1971 European Cup Winners Cup, when Chelsea beat Real Madrid in a replayed final. When his playing days were over, Peter worked as a goalkeeping coach with Chelsea, Manchester City and England. He has also built a fine reputation as an after dinner speaker.
