microphones.. and i'll assume we all know why .. lol

but since they use their hands for many things, and often in cramped spaces, a clip on mic wouldn't work, a standing or hanging mic is impractical, so the head mic, with foam filter on the tip and headband to make it comfy.. and the style of the headband.. just another reason them to dress funny

Oz is one of the most vocal people on my previous comment.
People ask him how he came up with so and so's voice, and the response is typically.. i didn't.. i perform the character, and then voice becomes synonymous with that character...... ofcourse that's not always the case (ie, Elmo sounds nothing like Kevin Clash)

.... I seem to remember an episode of something with the muppets, not behind the scenes but the muppets themselves showing the audience how they work..
