In this video chlorine is made by adding Concentrated hydrochloric acid to Potassium permanganate i test the yellowish-green chlorine gas using blue litmus paper

  • y will the litmus paper turn red

  • when chlorine first reacts with water it forms HCl and HClO which are acids which turn blue litmus red later the chlorine bleaches the litmus paper

  • @dhwanitchem why does the litmus paper turn bleached after turning red?

  • @TheLittlemissghostly Chlorine gas is a strong Bleaching Agent and thats why the litmus dye like the other dyes gets bleached.

  • @mrscaryspider *muriatic* acid is simply another name for hydrochloric acid, so, no wonder it has the same propeties. In fact, all acids do (to a certain extent), as these properties are all due to presence of hydroxonium ions in solution.

  • meratic acid is cheap and it is more powerful then hydrochloric acid plus it has the same proprietarys
