thank you all assembled and back together paid $58 for the door handle. Rather than 250 for a whole new door thanks again!

My handle broke 4 times. Last time the plastic shell the handle mounts to also broke. You can not buy a replacement plastic shell, all that is available is the entire door so I was SOL. I did get a 5th handle and this time took a long hard look at the problem. I found that the top handle screw goes through a strong part of the door (frame) but the bottom screw only goes through the plastic shell which allows for way too much movement thus causing the lower handle support to always break.

Thanks so much for posting this. You saved me lots of time and money. I notice there is a crack in the plastic on the door of mine, so we'll see how long that lasts. I found when removing that "monstrosity", it was helpful to pry out with the paint spatula in one hand while using the flathead screwdriver to gently pop the 10 tabs with the other hand. On the reassembly end of it, everything popped back in fairly easily once lined up correctly. Fingers crossed the new handle/door will last awhile.

Thanks. This was very helpful, accurate and detailed. Other than breaking off the tabs on the outer facing and having a hard time removing the broken handle screws (like everyone else), it all went as described. I really appreciate the time and effort to put the video together (especially all the recaps lol).

Thanks for making this video. We were having a real hard time & ready to give up until we watched this. Thanks for your time

Thanks for this video. Warning if you replace the stock handle with a cheap drawer handle like I did. The *entire* front of the door under the stainless has glass hidden beneath it. If you try to drill through the steel anywhere you will hit glass and break it like it did. Easier to put the handle in the black plastic frame below the stainless steel. You might do this without removing the door, as it was really hard to get the door back and you don't need to remove the microwave shield for this.

I have the same make and model. I bought the microwave in October, 2002. The handle first broke in July, 2008 and I paid GE $200+ to fix it since I had no idea how to do it myself. It broke again (October, 2011) and using this video I fixed successfully.
Everything that happened to the author here happened to me. I did break some clips on the outer holder and found removing the broken handle part a bear. But reinstalling the door was really hard, because it was difficult to line up the pins.

Mine broke again and i looked at it closer to really analyze the problem and replacing the handle could not be done so I have to re-engineer the fix and "prepare" the area with the new handle and EPOXY. So far it has held. If it fails again I will have to replace the entire effin door. Thanks GE. I spoke to a technician who was at the house for a different issue and he said this happens because it is in an area that heats the plastic handle and it fails.......

I am the author of this video. The handle broke AGAIN. I went in and modified tthe parts for a final EPOXY solution. I still needed to know how to get in to the door and "PLAN" the final epoxy solution. The area where the handle parts contacted the door is essentially a solid area now because the entire area inside the door is epoxy solid. I f it breaks again i'll have to replace the door. This company replaced the handle they sold me in the video as it had a 1 year warranty. Shame on GE.

Thank you very much for this video! I virtually the same microwave and the door latch broke and the unit was not operable. By watching your video I was able to disassemble the door and install a new latch ($15), and now my advantium microwave works better than before (Since we installed it 4 years ago the door was always difficult to open and now it seems the latch was problematic from the beginning. Now it open easy like it is supposed to!). You saved me tons of money!

@musictherapywi You are welcome. I scoured the internet looking for instructions on how to replace this lousy handle and the videos , diagrams and explanations were inadequate. I had to do this for anyone's benefit!
