This this a recording of the historic first lecture in which the esoteric teaching of Maimonides concerning philosophy and faith, or philosophy politically viewed, is explained. The lecture also serves as a general introduction to the manner in which all the writings of the great medieval arabic & jewish thinkers must be interpreted to be understood. The rediscovery of esotericism was the rediscovery of the classical and original pristine meaning of philosophy as depicted and thought by none other than Plato in the life of Socrates. The elegant rationality of Strauss' delivery and the sublime charm of his dialectic is so powerful that only the mentally corrupt, indignant, or insensible are immune to it. "Philosophy is not intended to be edifying, but it cannot help being so."

  • When and where exactly did Leo Strauss hold this lecture?

  • This lecture was held in either the Social Sciences building Room 122, at the University of Chicago, or at the Hillel House of the same campus.

    cool story bro.

  • Do you have any lectures by Seth Benardete or Nathan Tarcov?

  • These lessons assume a deep understanding of Judaism, Guide, M-Torah. Strauss

does not make clear tnat ex nilo creaton is necessary for miracles, which are necessary for rhe Chosen status of Hebrews, pure utilitarianism, not correspondence, the barrier that prevented scientific thought.

  • Thanks indeed. Brilliant share
