This one hit me today - fresh off the press as it were. No idea if it works.

I've been thinking about the way humans go through the day kidding themselves. I suspect most people walk around in a constant state of "WTF?" - Thus the title. Not about whiskey, tangoes, or foxtrots.

The guitar is a high-strung/Nashville tuned six string (bottom four string replaced with octave strings). Just a little reverb, no effects.

More info on the Bring the Song Challenge this weekend - You still have 'til February to get cracking!!!

Whiskey Tango Foxtrot

He goes to his favorite house of worship
And he drinks himself awake
Counts on luck to take his drunk ass home

He whores himself on Monday
Has second thoughts by Wednesday night
By Friday he's afraid to be alone

He does the Whiskey Tango Foxtrot
Doesn't notice what he has
Just what he has not
He does the Whiskey Tango Foxtrot

Now we daughters and sons
our heart with walls of steel
forgetting who we are when we're alone

So we drown ourselves in longing
and we sleep behind the wheel
We kill ourselves trying to get home

We do the Whiskey Tango Foxtrot
Chasing what we want
Ignoring what we've got
We do the whiskey tango foxtrot

We do what the man says
And live from day to day
and we lace our boots up tight

But the heart has it's own compass
And if you listen hard
It might just get you through the night

to do the Whiskey Tango Foxtrot
Living in the moment
And thickening the plot

  • Awesome song an singing Grumps! Absolutely love it. Really sweet intro lick and that tuning is really cool. Is it like a twelvestringe but with the only the octave strings? Never seen that, but then again I live far away from Nashville...

  • Thanks amigo - Yep, just like a 12 string, only use the octave high strings on the EADG - the B and High E are standard. It's mostly used for studio doubling (and mostly in the 70's), but I think it sounds cool alone too.

You should try it, it's like getting s new guitar for the price of a few strings. Sort of a re-entrant guitar tuning.

  • damn this is good mr. coyote. the lyrics are killer!

  • Thanks man - Already thinking about Foxtrot Echo Alpha.
