This rectangular house-like structure was built out of proteins by Jason Shear at Bryan Kaehr at The University of Texas at Austin. They trapped E. coli in the house and then show how they can release them. The bacteria are trapped in a ring-shaped chamber. When the researchers increased the pH of the cell culture, the chamber changed volume, causing the house to pop off its foundation and release the bacteria.
