@elchacal31 The swinging gate was highly effective against 60's karate. I don't know about today's fighters...it's a little outdated. But regardless if its outdated or not, I would never use swinging gate as a tool. Its too slow. Just like in the video, I would use progressive indirect attack instead...faking is so much better. You don't need a reference point, you don't supply a reference point, you don't need to complete the first move, and you still move the obstacle out of the way.

@simonmafy But in that case you can just attack low with kicks, but yeah you're right it wouldn't work agaisnt Boxing type, wether he likes to cover or dodge

I wanna point out that the swinging gate only works against elaborate blockers. People that chase the hand with their blocks or use alot of energy to deflect. If you get a fighter that prefers to cover up like a boxer, the swinging gate will not work.

Don't forget to keep your lead hand up during your kick, just in case you miss!

Gotta love progressive indirect attack. This it is my personal preference to not step in when throw my kicks and to remain in proper range at all times. But my JKD resembles more of a Savateurs style which contains no pendulum kicks and distance is kept at all times. All the same feints are none the less just as useful.
also i want to point out that the feint also give momentum for the kick, feels like there is something to grip/pull after the feint is done. and also dont feint too far for the beginners. great video as always jin sifu!

when shadowboxing , do i imagine that i am fighting an opponent or something?

@shootingmen yeah, try and make it "active" for the mind, that's why in front of a mirror is good.

@shootingmen "shadowboxing" in front of a mirror if you can, is also a great way to train as well as warm up.
