@JxT1957 - yes it will run on batteries I think it's either 8 or 6 'D' cells. It has a slide out battery compartment on the rear that you can swap with a power pack for running on the mains. Unfortunately I don't have a battery pack and I would love one but they seem to be even more rare than the boombox! I've seen a simillar Panasonic unit on YouTube that also has a record player. Does this unit also play tapes? When was the Nas record released.

Yes it also has a single tape deck. The sound quality is bang on for a unit of its age. The album Illmatic was released in 1994 and the track playing in this vid is The Genesis, the opening track on the album. A true classic.
