nursing is an abusive "profession" both mentally and physically. There is a lot of racism and sexism in nursing that no one likes to talk about. Most nurses who do graduate(if they don't harass you out first), leave within 5 years. I warned you all!

wound care, IV, x-rays, other more advanced practices, and possibly spend a moment in theatre. Uni has been so much fun. As a grand total of all my classes, there were probably only 6 males. It's really nice seeing male nursing students and nurses though.

I'd really like to know why you decided that nursing was your vocation. I'm a first sem nursing student (the system is really different in Australia - it's been interesting learning about the US and UK systems!) and my clinicals over a 5 day period starts on the coming Monday. I'm SO excited and nervous. Like you I've been healthy and haven't needed to go to hospital as an inpatient just yet, so it's going to be a huge shock. I'm in the general surgical ward so hopefully I get to see some ...

@kabooski I think you're so wrong. Thats why you have nurses aides. My mother is a nurse, I will soon be in nursing school and I'm a nurses aide myself. Thats MY job..not the job of an actual nurse. I think you should look up the complete job description dear.

I also disagree with your advice about HAVING to do group study. Group study can be a total trainwreck. If it's serious, fine.....but most of the time it turns into a social event, and takes precious time away from your studying. I gave up on group study after the first few weeks of the program, and I have done much better on my own. Everyone is different....so group study is not a benefit to one depending on their personality

This was very helpful!! Thanks!
I'm a guy, and yeah, my class is 99% girls, but it's not like you want to date anyone you have class with. Too much nursing shit to deal with to even think about dating one of them

I start the BSN program at UAM in less than a month and I'm so excited! What are clinicals like?

@lovelyaley If you've never been in the hospital on a semi consistent basis, it can get a little hectic. For the first few weeks you just shadow an RN your whole shift and do basic stuff like making beds, helping the patient to the bathroom, and giving bed baths to patients that are too weak to do it themselves. Depending on how early you get to the hospital, you'll probably listen to you're RN get report from the night nurse and go from there. Good luck...
