The JFDI Academy is a meta-game built for the CS1101S: Programming Methodology (Scheme) module at the National University of Singapore. Inspired by Jane McGonigal's TED talk and Urgent Evoke (an Alternate Reality Game project she created for the World Bank), the JFDI Academy places a game layer on top of the usual class activities (lectures, tutorials, discussion groups, assignments) to better engage students in the learning process.

The goals and aims of the projects are to:
- Encourage students to do consistent work, instead of last minute work
- Make assignments more fun
- Encourage friendly competition to incentivize students to keep up with their work
- Reward students for doing more without making the workload too arduous


The integration of a game layer with the course is done by mapping class activities and rewards into a fictional world - the JFDI Academy. Some examples of this include:
- Making assignments into missions, with optional assignments for extra credit masked as side quests
- Awarding students experience points for in-class participation and quizzes
- Giving every student a profile to display their badges of honors and track their progress
- Leaderboard to introduce peer pressure and encourage competition
