@a2birdcage1 Read the double jeopardy clause. It protects against being tried twice for the same offense AND being punished twice for the same offense!
@vincent15641 You are missing one very important fact. In order for Double Jeopardy to even apply you have to be aquitted of any wrong doing. It does not apply if you were convicted of the crime. Increase punishment for convicted repeat offenders has nothing at all to do with Double Jeopardy. That's a pretty obvious and easily discerned difference.
The US is responsible for creating most of these so called "terrorists" because of their brutal foreign policies. I don't believe 9/11 was an inside job but I do however believe it was a counter-attack. A well deserved and long overdue counter-attack.
Vote for Ron Paul in 2012 if you're tired of the current state of the US. He is the only one who sees it the way it really is and will change it for the better.
@a2birdcage1 You are the only one I've ever heard say that. Even many attorneys have agreed that triggers double jeopardy. But they seemingly conspire to allow it to continue.
@a2birdcage1 The point was that if you are punished for a robbery 3 years ago and then commit a burglary 6 months ago, when they sentence you today more harshly because of your past crimes- they are in effect punishing you again for what you have already served time for.
Being punished twice for the same office is DOUBLE JEOPARDY!
@vincent15641 You clearly don't understand double jeopardy. You're basically saying that if you are charged with a murder and found to be not guilty then say a year down the road you are charged with a different murder that the courts somehow can't put you on trial for that murder charge. That's not double jeopardy.
The worst injustice is nobody speaks out against the Double Jeopardy violations happening everyday. When a disturbed young man becomes a repeat offender, courts routinely will increase the punishment for his current crime because of his past crimes- even though he has already served his time for past crimes.
Double Jeopardy!
Then when he stops doing crime and tries to get a job, he suffers legalized job discrimination against ex-offenders. See the Aimed At America 4 video to see slavery today.

@vincent15641 I understand what you are saying but that's still not Double Jeopardy.
