  • @litostones In a general response to all of your comments. At Myosho-ji we observe the teachings of the Eternal Buddha Shakyamuni as revealed in the 16th chapter of the Lotus Sutra. We are a recognized Nichiren Shu temple and follow the practices as laid out by our founder Nichiren Shonin.

You are of course free to express your opinions, you may notice that I have not censored your comments.

And you are also free to practice Buddhism in any manner you so desire.

  • @litostones Sadly you are mistaken into believing something that is not supported by doctrine. There is nothing in either the Lotus Sutra or in Nichiren's writing that say reciting in a native language is prohibited. My friend, you should study more of the Lotus Sutra and Nichiren before you decide to condemn or judge others. You are of course fee to have your own prejudices, however you burden yourself with things prohibiting you from fully enjoying the great benefit of the Lotus Sutra.

  • never heard Gongyo presented in ENGLISH! Where is Myosho-ji anyway? thanks!

  • @electricrailwaygod Myosho-ji is located in Charlotte, NC USA. Thanks for watching.

  • gotta say; the constant striking of the bell throughout the recitation of the sutra would get on my nerves big time.

  • Thank you for sharing! It is a little difficult to find material in English.

  • Shaka is not the eternal Buddha. Never has been by his own admission, Nichiren Shu is way off mark

  • To do the real gongyo would take hours, totally impractical. Not to mention that the chinese characters inlude sentences..... Nichiren the Buddah of Kuonganjo will get bored.

  • @Beginningless: ahh...as a matter of seriousness, I hereby correct myself - the above words are directed at 'The Myoshoji', the useless and fake priest who did nothing to the world running rampant with evil men. 'cause he is one such.

  • @TheMyoshoji: "...you are also free to practice Buddhism in any manner you so desire."

No wonder Nichiren stated clearly in his writings that there were and would be countless men of evil hearts who dressed up cloaks of priesthood and pretend to be holy, honorable men of faith. YOU, litostones, is one such fellow. Trying to be sincere and telling the whole world to 'practise Buddhism in any manner you desire'? All but in the name of getting more devotees to contribute and fatten your pockets?

  • @jmlee369 Kumarajiv WAS the one who translated the Lotus Sutra. Not only did he accomplished that, he all the more vowed that should he translated the sutra with ANY OF HIS PERSONAL IDEA INFUSED IN IT, HIS TONGUE WOULD BE BURNED. HOWEVER SHOULD HE TOTALLY TRANSLATE THE SUTRA WITHOUT ANY PERSONAL THOUGHT ATTACHED, HIS TONGUE WOULD REMAIN INTACT.

So who was the fellow who translated the Gongyo? You? Your granny? Or your great aunt's maid? Don't talk stooopid here please?

  • @jmlee369 You seemed to be in your mom's womb when you typed the reply. There is a reason behind EVERY translation and migration, and for the truth to be revealed IN JAPAN in the 13 century the very trans-migration was necessary. Similarly had the Buddha NOT encontered persecutions he would NOT have gained enlightenment. The persections were NECESSARY for his enlightenment. Get it?

Great translators huh? So who did the translation of Gongyo here? Who is the GREAT TRANSLATOR? Tell me now.

  • @jmlee369 Wake your own brain up first, if you have one in the beginning. "...the Buddha used words to teach the dharma"...SO?? 'Mind-to-mind'? Mind your head! Haha...if you don't know anything about Buddhism, just shut up. Ananda fully grasped the truth of this Universe and there the Buddha smiled. Simple as that. Just because I used my eyes to read the traffic on the road does NOT mean I don't use my ears to hear the coming noise. Get it? Translate Gongyo? Hahaha...how more stupid is that?

  • @Beginningless Also, your recounting of the Buddha holding up a flower and Maha Kashyapa's response of a smile relates the transmission of the Ch'an Dharma, the first mind-to-mind transmission which began the lineage outside the (textual) teachings. Considering that the tale is an account of a Ch'an transmission, it is irrelevant here. To awaken beings from ignorance, the Buddha used words to teach the dharma, for had he not done so, very few (if any) people would have awakened themselves.
