This is a scene from our independent feature film DESPISER. Shot in 1998, this micro-budgeted effort predates SIN CITY, SKY CAPTAIN or any of the other "virtual-synthetic-world" movies that followed. This clip features Mark Redfield, Doug Brown, Michael Weitz, Frank Smith and Mark Hyde.

It's available on DVD for $5.95 at: http://www.oldies.com/product-view/1015D.html

  • Amazing integration of live action and CGI. This must have been pure hell to plot out. Much fun to watch!

  • Thanks. It was a fun scene to make -- quite a while ago now -- 1998. We were trying all kinds of new things for us on a shoe string budget.

  • When I first saw this movie I felt differently, but now watching the clip I've come to realize that the visual style is actually more interesting to look at than 300 or any of these CG-orgy movies lately.

  • I swear that this NO budget film is one of the BEST I've seen in AGES! It has a WONDERFUL script:full of humor, clever plot twists, FULLY developed and TRULY unforgettable characters and an understated eloquence that damn few American-made films can boast! When the heroic Japanese soldier ceremoniously burns the body of his brave fallen commade and pronounces him:"You were SAMURAI!" I swear I cry like a baby! Just a TERRIFIC, truly ground-breaking film!!
