If you're going to call them anything, call them natives. I find "savage" a very derogatory term, no matter how true it may be. Because once upon a time, the Native Americans were called savages, and me being very proud of my blood, I hate it.
And they speak Mayan for a reason. Because it's a movie about the decline of the Mayan empire. It's about them, not us. So no, they shouldn't have made them speak English, because at that time, English didn't exist to them.
