  • It was a popular song. I read that it was recorded 6 times in 1940; the biggest hit being the Glen Miller version, then was featured in the Gene Autry film "The Singing Hill" in 1941.

    It must have made the song writers a fair bit of money just in the first year.

    HE WAS ALSO MARTY ROBBINS FAVORITE SINGER.

  • I remember this show, I have this record I got during World War II. On my Gene Autry record it says written by Vincent Rose, the lyrics by Al Lewis. I remember alot of these great westerns at the picture show.

  • Unlike today, in the 30s and 40s many records of the same song were put out by many different artits. Louis Armstrong also had a great record of this song in the 50's. Its on YouTube.
