Traditional Scottish song, "The Massacre of Glencoe," performed by Jesse Ferguson on a homemade mountain dulcimer. Not exactly a cheery Christmas song, but appropriate for wintry weather. Here's a link to the wikipedia entry on the historical massacre: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Massacre_of_Glencoe

  • Always a sad song to hear. My kids are somehow related to the Campbells through their father. There are so many sorrowful ballads... I kind of hope there were some happy times in Scotland as well.

  • As someone with a good amount of MacDonald blood in my veins, I would like to thank you for recording this song. Such a sad story, but it's important that people remember what happened. The MacDonalds of Glencoe were murdered in cold blood simply because they wouldn't bow to tyranny.

  • I've heard Beaton butcher this a dozen times. I couldn't keep a dry eye to your version.

  • There was a bonus though . . . the losers didn't have to walk up the bloody hills again!!

Beautiful country, the only sadness is what we humans create in it. My daughter lives in the Borders, it's too beautiful to have the history it's got.

  • umm... can a Dalrymple comment on this? On my mothers side... not my fault.

  • Beautifully done! Thank you!

  • you will have to play this in campbellton this summer as we have a Glencoe also! Plus we also have a Glenlevit, Dundee ,balmoral

  • Nice Jesse. A great instument!

  • Jesse:

This song always gives me lumps... even if sung by a butcher... which you are not.

I really like what you are doing... Did you ever do "Garry Owen?" (with words?)

  • Sounds great, I love your versatility on instruments, a true gift.

  • My father used to play the dulcimer. This performance brings back some very heartwarming memories.

  • my girlfriend's a campbell. great tune.
