Radio Netherlands Worldwide on shortwave 17605 kHz (transmitted from the Santa Maria di Galeria station of Vatican Radio) received in Germany on 18 June 2012 at 1800 UTC with its English programme towards Africa, signing on with the well-known interval signal.
Receiver: Tecsun PL-380 with its built-in telescopic antenna
On 29 June 2012, Radio Netherlands is ceasing its shortwave broadcasts in English and other languages after its Dutch service "Wereldomroep" had already stopped on 11 May due to massive budget cuts.

Thank you for recognizing my video response.
It is very sad that RNW's ceasing.
For me, from the era of my junior high school,
(the era when I have listened by RF-2800 and FRG-7 .)
the sound of carillon from Hilversum was very familiar.

I also enjoyed RNW's excellent programmes since about 1987 and was a regular listener of their Media Network show for many years. Their slow decay began around the year 2000 when Media Network was ceased. Later on, they cancelled broadcasts to Europe, then they cut back news and current affairs programmes and now finally they're gone. Thanks for your comment!

Yes, indeed. :( I always liked the high quality programmes of RNW and used to be a regular listener when they still targeted Europe.

I can understand your rant very well. The same thing happened here in Germany last year with Deutsche Welle ceasing their German programme. Instead they focus on TV and internet services that are of no immediate use for the tax payer.

I began listening to SW back in 1960 - My parents bought a big old cabinet unit with a green eye - I was 12 yrs old - Later for my bd I got a Realistic DX-180 I carried around till three years ago. I don't remember when i first caught RNW but I do remember taping their broadcasts in the 80s when they sent over the air computer programs that I could run on my Vic-20 LOL. They were in a modified version of basic. Thx for posting the signal.

When I was a kid in middle 80's, RNW was a "portal site" along with VOA, BBC and DW. Farewell to RNW !

It's a shame indeed, especially as RNW always had high quality programmes.
