  • Great shoots. that was one fun event.

  • Adding to what Robilar said, I take pride in my country. I also believe that history repeats itself. So, with learning visually, and getting a feel for it, there is a lesser chance of it repeating. I love history, and re-living it just makes it so much better. Of course, I believe the Civil War was a bad act, but learning about the past, and re-living it by re-enactments help you to better understand what is going on. Any other questions, let me know.

  • Hey, Canadianvoice, why are you(and other folks)worried about Americans reenacting a war that took place in their history? You do your thing, and they'll do theirs. Does it personally bother you or something? Do you not have a life?

  • j95lee, do you have some resentment for U.S. Civil War Re-enactors? I could be wrong, but from this comment-"I don't where that came from. I commented on why I feel Americans reenact their civil war and the English doesn't...I'm actually aware of history outside of North America."

  • Sorry if I came across too high-handed. I didn't intend to, but sometimes it's hard to make a point in 500 characters ;)

More to the point of the conversation, there are several ECW re-enactment societies active in Great Britain, though the one I'm most familiar with is the Sealed Knot. They have a couple of vids posted here on youtube. What I'm not sure I understand is why Europeans re-enact the US Civil War... seems odd to me.But you do have me looking up Korean military history. kudos!

  • I know certain Asian culture celebrate parts of their history re imagining it on the modern stage. But it tends to be ceremonial and not a literal "reenactment" of the actual events.

I know for a fact that some Koreans are ENAMORED their military glory. The Imjim Waeran is stuff of fable. Why don't they reenact this annually?

I don't know. There's probably room for debate. Not for elitists like Robilar, apparently.

  • I don't where that came from. I commented on why I feel Americans reenact their civil war and the English doesn't. ACW engulfed the nation as a whole and the battles involves romance and myth making. .

Please, don't lecture me. I'm Asian, I read in 2 lagnuages, and I'm actually aware of history outside of North America.

  • j95lee, the ECW was VERY much about the shape of the world as it was then. Had the Royalists won, our country would have looked VERY different. Before you comment on the wars of someone else, do your reading.

  • rckroo, I'm pretty certain that you're not a historian. I'm an American, and an ACW re-enactor and Canadians did in fact kick the shit out of a bunch of American Civil War Irishmen (from both sides) who tried to assault Canada and establish a 'Free Irish State'. And they did it with militia. Search the word 'Fenians'. And if you doubt the determination of Canadians still, look up 'Vimy Ridge'.

  • JD1985, when it comes to being a history nut as opposed to a great many other hobbies, what's worse? A $600 musket that I'll fire all year long and will NEVER wear out, or putting $1800 rims on an $800 car? Or $2200 for a main 'chute in skydiving? Or scuba diving, being a Shriner, a motorcycle guy, a computer geek? We all have our hobby.
