After the "security guard" attacked me, he called the police (who did nothing more to me than tell me to keep moving while protesting and not to block traffic) while I continued to record and discuss the situation with onlookers.

Is it me or... is the coffee shop guy there to act as a counter witness?

I mean, if the Scientologist security guard shows up and starts assaulting the camera man, and the camera man says "officer I have this film as a witness to him being a douche." The guy at the coffee shop could say "No officer, security was just doing his job, the camera man was the douche."

Defensive measure against arrest, if both sides are at fault.
