The Author in the Age of the Internet; a panel discussion with John Lanchester, Nicholas Spice, Colm Tóibín, James Wood and Mary-Kay Wilmers. The full video can be found on the LRB website www.lrb.co.uk.

As technological circumstances change, so do the possibilities for fiction. If there had been a contraceptive pill in the 19th century, would we have had Tess of the D'Urbervilles? But modern technologies have also brought in a new range of error and mistake. John Lanchester, Nicholas Spice, Colm Tóibín, James Wood and Mary-Kay Wilmers consider the new narrative possibilities, while reflecting on the literary influences of chat rooms, global positioning systems, YouTube and grindr.

This event took place in New York on 24 April 2010 as part of the celebration of the thirtieth anniversary of the London Review of Books.

The other events in this series are also available to watch online. Obama's War: a lecture by Tariq Ali; J'accuse: Dreyfus in Our Time: a lecture by Jacqueline Rose.
