This reminds me of those Marvel Super Heroes cartoons of the mid-60s that were 6 minutes long and were shot like comic panels with only certain parts animated, mostly the dialog, like reading comic book panels.

In truth, it's probably more inspired by the hand of Midas from the third Aladdin movie.
...but then again, I'm a bit a dork to remember things like that from my childhood. :-P
