I've just came across an interview with Steven Pinker titled "Steven Pinker on writing" from Nov 2, 2008 in which he explains how he became a spokesperson for Smart Furniture. You'll find it in the C-Span video library.

Could you be more nerd?....one of the greatest minds of our time, thats for sure.
-
haha I'll have to look that up. Sounds funny.

In person, he came to Trinity, where my mom teaches. It's taken from a book he's writing called "Language as a window into human nature." Maybe it's out already? I don't know.
I don't think there's much of him on the internet, though there was the time he went on Colbert.
Colbert: "How does the mind work? Five words or less."
Pinker: "Okay, ahh...'brain cells fire in patterns.'"

Were you at the lecture or did you watch in online?

You know, I think I remember that very phrase, now that you mention it! And I saw that lecture a year ago.
-
XD I think that was the lecture where he made reference to a phrase, "If you would pass the guacamole that would be awesome!" Steven Pinker is a joy to read and listen to.

I don't know if I'd call it an infomercial - didn't see where you could buy them for 3 easy payments of 39.99. It's more of a look-at-my-cool-new-loft-merci

true dat. I got shelves for my library, now I'm as smart as Pinker... well, not quite, but well on my way. I think the concept of little cubes full of knowledge has an overall soothing effect on my life. I need more.

smartfurniture dot com has some pretty cool new products too.
I can't believe Steven Pinker is doing an infomercial!
The world has truly gone mad :(

it's not an infomercial. HGTV was featuring Smart Furniture and he's one of their customers. He obviously likes their stuff.

Pinker is great. I saw a lecture of his tonight about language and human nature. Particularly entertaining (and informative) was his dissection of swear words. It's a lot of fun to see Harvard professors rattle off obscenties in intellectual discussion without actually using them as obscenities.

That's awesome. Where was the lecture? I'd like to see one of his lectures someday, he's an eccentric but cool guy...
