1988 Marina Klimova Sergei Ponomarenko Olympics OSP

Marina and Sergei wrote a novel of their own in the caustically critical world of competitive ice dancing in the 80's AND 90's. Sergei, ever the dashing and dapper Southern gentleman (is there such a thing as Southern Russia?) to Marina's aristocratically correct techniqery (i've been watching to much Stephen Cobert - I'm inventing words now), delighted American audiences as an ICE Dancing Couple in Waiting, but lost us with a series of confused artistic statements as World Champs. They Tangoed toe-to-toe with the French/Canadian Ducheneys atop the World podium for years, before nailing their legacy with an unforgettable vampire-ish 1992 Olympic free dance (which I still need to have explained to me -- it's so artistic I haven't figured it out yet). Still a delightful couple, they are contributing now to American ice dancing in the San Francisco area. Since the Olympic performance is already posted elsewhere, I chose this piece to EXPRESS their ESSENCE!!!! (with a flourish!!!)

These two are my favorite ice dance team after Torvill and Dean (well, I am British) with Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir tied third with Grichuk and Platov. These two have such perfect ballet line, carriage, fee leg extensions, soft knees and wonderful interpretation. And that rareity where they are technically each other's equal. They developed even more under Tarasova. Thank you, as always, for posting.
