I managed to plant my peppers out in the garden late yesterday. It went down to 7 degrees Celsius last night, so I covered them up and it's cloudy and cool today, but staying around 15 overnight, so I should be okay. As well, the forecast is for sunny and warm temperatures in the mid-twenties all the rest of this week. I'm figuring that this will be ideal for the plants to get acclimatized to their new surroundings.

I've wound up with 13 varieties: Seven Pods, Scorpions, Bhut Jolokias, Naga Morich, Fatalii, Hot Paper Lanterns, Caribbean Red Habs, Orange Habs, Red Scotch Bonnets, Cayenne, Pequin, Super Chili and Cveta Hot. I am hoping for a big year with the early Spring we've had.

Thanks for watching!

  • the naga morich/jolokia, bhut etc, are only 1.1 million SVU. The current record holder is the Trinidad Scorpion Butch T which scales at 1.4 million

  • @Stohz - Hi Stohz. I know there are always controversies surrounding the testing of peppers. Bhuts testing @ 1.1; Nagas testing @ 1.5; Vipers @ 1.3 and the Butch T @ 1.4. I have personally had peppers all off the same plant which had different heat levels. It all depends on the specific heat of the specific pepper off the specific plant raised in the specific environment. It is all subjective. You may be right. It is all ballpark anyway & marking time til the next hottest. Thx for the comment.

  • what kind of light schedule did you have the peppers on before they came outside?

  • @fkelly84 I like to have them on a 16 hours on - 8 hours off schedule. The more light the better! Thank you for watching my video and taking the trouble to post a comment.

  • Great vid mate , well donte , i bet they all turned out awsome for u.

  • @SAK59 Hey thanks! I've been doing every 3-4 days now the weather here in New York has been extremely hot. The habaneros are doing so much better. I added a little 5-7-3 fertilizer around them and they seemed to have perked up a lot and turned much greener. The only one that doesnt really look any different is the paper lantern habanero. I guess well see what happens later in the season. Thanks again!

  • @cob4lyf04 Just wanted to pipe in another word here because this is the right decision. Pepper plants do better when they are allowed to dry out. They don't like sitting in wet soil. I let the garden dry out completely - some of the larger plants start to wilt, then give it a good watering. Usually once a week. Once there are peppers ripening, they become hotter if the plants are allowed to stress.

How are your habaneros doing? Again, thanks for leaving a comment. I really appreciate it!

  • @nagacanario In 2009 I used 4 CFL bulbs - 2 "100" watts and 2 "200" watts but they interfered with my wireless network. This year I switched to 4 Sunblaster High Output 54 watt T5 Fluorescents. The CFL bulbs worked much better, but I worried about the radiation. The T5s were OK but not intense enough. As soon as I started hardening off the plants they became sunburnt. Next year I will use 8 bulbs and see if that works. They were about $50 a bulb with ballast. Good luck with your garden. Thanks.
