That ultra late wrist set going back caused him problems under pressure. If you pause on the downswing in the hitting area, you can see he doesn't actually have a huge amount of lag, One reason he hit it so high.
He would have won about 10 majors if he had learnt to hit 3/4 controlled irons under pressure, like faldo.
I watched greg hit balls on the practice range in 1988 with the old persimmon driver and old balls and i can honestly say i have never seen a ball struck with such authority and with the most amazing trajectory in my life, he was simply the best with a driver, fullstop.
@khensley1966 Hey you never know, at the very least, you can self publish via the internet, and sell it using paypal transactions. Could work out very well if you know what you're talking about, and I've got this feeling you know a little bit.
@pudgylumpkins Thanks, I've been studying the golf swing since 84. I built my own driving range which can be a curse. I'll read about something then will spend hours trying it on my range. I once had a lesson from a U S Amateur champion (Sam Randolph, he was also low Amateur when Jack won the Masters in 86) who after talking about the swing for an hour after the lesson told me I should write a book. Course nobody would buy a book wrote by a truck driver. LOL
for me it's shift, then trun and pull. I like the early weight shift that hogan used. when my shoulder hits my chin I shift weight left, then trun my hips toward the target while tolling the bell and the same time. works most of the time for me
@pudgylumpkins True to some extent, the harvey penick move (right elbow to the side) has more hip movement than what greg uses. I've tried it for years and never could time my hips. I'd always end up with too much upper body and a really pure shot going left. a good thing about the elbow to the side is it creates natural lag. If a person can clear his hips the right elbow is a great tool. Just wish I could do it on a regular basis. My move is a combo of that but I cheat with an early shift

@khensley1966 Wow, you know quite a bit about your swing. I think about one thing for my swing, keep my head down. I don't even know what I do.

@khensley1966 Right elbow is tucked in pretty tight, almost makes it impossible to come over the top.

it's amazing how quiet his hips are. I'd love to know how he does it without coming over the top.
