The "Nicky" is related to the "Pratt" and provides an excellent compact, medium sized symmetric knot. The "Nicky" is a very practical knot which can be used with most any tie.

As you can see, the tie is inverted (the seam shows) as you start. This saves us one loop.

The video is to be viewed as if you were looking in a mirror.

  • Just saying thanks for ALL the videos

  • My pleasure!

    :-)

  • Question: I've used the pratt for years (small knot better fit for my narrow collar shirts and also imho less showy/formal so its suited daily use, while still being symmetric), but I happened to stumble upon this video. You mention that the nicky is related to the pratt, and the tying method is very similar. I was wondering what the differences would be in the size and looks? I can't really tell. Thanks

  • Hi,

The top part of the Pratt knot is slightly wider than the Nicky.

  • That's a half windsor. When was called a nicky knot?

  • It's not a Half Windsor. But you have a point, It is very close. It has one less move than the Half Windsor because I am tying it inverted (with the seam showing in the beginning). It looks just like the Half Windsor, but is slightly smaller.

  • One of my favorites! Personally, I think its the easiest out of all of them, and one of the best ones too.

  • @TheMorningComes not even close to a full windsor bro.. or a half for that matter.

  • how many ways is there to tie a bow tie?

  • Rofl. Amazing how many people call any random knot a half-windsor, even though they don't look like Windsor knots at all!

    Great videos :)

  • This is the knot I've used for years -- thought I was tying a "Pratt," not realizing it is actually a "Nicky" knot. Personally, my favorite. The "ideal" knot:

    - easy to tie,

    - perfect size (medium) knot,

    - great shape and symmetry,

    - self-releasing.

  • full windsor this guy makes up names for knots psh.. dumbass

  • @Telltolin Then you're idiot.

  • whats the knot that looks like a small square?

  • all tie knots look the same to me, seriously

  • think this one is self-releasing and the pratt is not - correct me if i'm wrong

  • i agree with DVS69 but i mean im no tie expert
