Vincent Lopez was born in a Portuguese immigrant family in Brooklyn (1895) and was leading his own dance band in New York City since 1917. In 1921 his band began broadcasting on the new medium of entertainment radio, which made him one of the USA's most popular band leaders, and would retain that status through the 1940s.

His theme song was "Nola", a novelty ragtime piece by Felix Arndt from the 1910s. He began his radio programs by announcing "Lopez speaking!".

The Keller Sisters and Lynch were a very popular vocal trio in the mid-1920's through the early 1930's. They could be found as the vocalists with the greatest orchestras of the 1920's - Jean Goldkette, Ben Selvin, Ben Bernie, and Vincent Lopez just to name a few. The Keller Sisters and Lynch (he was their brother, who was the only one in the trio holding their original family name: Lynch) were the vaudeville performers of the 1920's, each having started out at a very young age at various theaters, mostly in the New York area.

  • I found Vincent Lopez played quite interesting arrangements for the AMPICO, especially when the pianists were required, by the company, to improvise a melody in every AMPICO roll.

  • cool to see youtube actually work

  • When I was on the China Coast in the late 1950s and 60s I heard from old china coast men that there had been some great bands in Shanghai in the twenties and thirties;weren't the Chinese lucky? And whislt this music was being composed and,for us more important, played half the world was locked in mortal struggle.Amazing.
